Six student bodies of Manipur have jointly demanded to appoint a regular vice-chancellor of Manipur Technical University (MTU) within six months.
A joint release by Apunba Ireipakki Manipur Singlang Lup (AIMS), All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) Kangleipak Students Association (KSA), Manipur Students Federation (MSF) and Students' Union Kangleipak (SUK) has stated that MTU has been deprived of no regular a regular vice-chancellor since October 25 last year after the retirement of former VC.
The student community was grateful for the setting up of the technical university with the expectation that some change would be brought in the state. However, even after five years of its establishment there is a lack of many basic needs. There is no specific land for the university with no basic amenities even after five years of its establishment, it added.
The students’ bodies highly appreciated the state chief minister and education minister for appointing a regular VC for Manipur University of Culture and Dhanamanjuri University. Likewise, the student bodies would like to have a regular VC of MTU, the release said.
Drawing attention of the state government to fill up all the basic needs along with the post of regular VC in MTU, the students’ bodies appealed to fulfil all the criteria as per university act within six months, it added.
