Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations, Manipur (FEGOCTA) on Monday appealed to the state government to revoke the transfer order of its general secretary N Somorendro issued by the Higher and Technical Education department on July 15.

According to the transfer order issued by the deputy secretary of Higher and Technical Education, assistant professor N Somorendro was transferred to Tamenglong College from Manipur College, FEGOCTA stated in a release. However, it is reported that the assistant professor was informed about the transfer on August 3, it stated.

Issuing of the transfer order just a few days after orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 was issued by the department and at the end of FEGOCTA’s agitations have shocked and disappointed the college teaching community, it added.

It further stated that the transfer order was issued for the general secretary of FEGOCTA alone and that too during COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. When the online classes and internal assessments are going on, such actions by the Higher Education department have raised several questions, it added.

Asserting that Clause 6 of the MOU signed on March 6 mentioned that there will be no victimisation or disciplinary action taken against the teachers who took part in the agitations, FEGOCTA questioned whether the transfer order dishonoured the MOU in which the general secretary of FEGOCTA was a signatory.

It further questioned if the transfer order completely ignored the Higher Education department’s own orders No 7 (2)/61/2014-HE dated February 19, 2018 of Tenure, Transfer and Posting of the Government College teachers.

FEGOCTA further stated that it does not wish any kind of disturbance on the ongoing online classes, internal assessments and other academic activities.

It is not against any authority or groups, and its primary objective is to improve the collegiate education by implementing national policies of UGC and work for the common interests of the college teachers, it added. In the interest of students and the college teaching community, FEGOCTA on Friday submitted a memorandum to the chief minister, Education minister, chief secretary and other authorities concerned in this regard, it added.
