PIL filed against delay in post-matric scholarship

A PIL filed by DESAM leaders sought the high court’s directive for issuance of the pending scholarship amount to eligible students, who are much in need of it for further studies.

A PIL was filed against the state government’s negligence and delay in sanctioning the post-matric scholarship before the Manipur High Court by president and secretary general of Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) L Lamyanba and M Somorjit respectively.

The PIL sought the high court’s directive for issuance of the pending scholarship amount to the eligible students, who are much in need of the scholarship amount for further studies.

The secretary of MOBC and SC; the principal secretary of Finance; directorate of MOBC and the secretary of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment are the respondents of the PIL.

As informed by the petitioner to the media during a press conference held at DESAM office in Imphal, the high court had admitted the PIL and proceedings have been started.

In this regard, the general secretary lauded the initiative of the high court and expressed their trust to the high court that justice will be delivered.

He pointed out that delaying tactics in delivering the scholarship amount is not a new trend in the state, which is similar to suppressing the Rights to Education of many students belonging to financial backward classes. 

The general secretary also recalled the silent act of the state government in various agitations taken up against the post-matric scholarship issue, in many instances.
