It is very unfortunate to observe the present scenario of higher education in Manipur wherein over 20 colleges do not have regular principals, Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) general secretary Leishangthem Lamyanba said, as the organisation celebrated its 21st Foundation Day on Monday.

This year, DESAM celebrated its foundation day with the theme “Sensing Higher Education through Quality Teaching” at Kamakhya Pemton College, Hiyangthang, Imphal.

The general secretary said that the student body has been taking up various activities to promote quality education in the state by focusing more on higher education as it is the backbone to build a good society. They have been actively involved in various agitations launched in the state, he added.

"It is very unfortunate to observe the present scenario of higher education in the state wherein over 20 colleges do not have regular principals. The ratio of teachers and students are not proportionate in most colleges and there is not a single regular teacher in DM College of Teachers’ Education," the GS of DESAM noted.

The state government should address the above-mentioned issues at earliest, he demanded and urged the state government to remove or suspend teachers who are neglecting to perform their duties in any part of the state.
