Number of teachers more than students in school

SSUM stated that during the drive the SSUM team found that the Mahatma Gandhi Samarak Junior High School had more number of teachers than number of students. Some classes had no students at all, it added.

Socialist Students’ Union of Manipur (SSUM) on Friday conducted inspection drive at Mahatma Gandhi Samarak Junior High School, Imphal West and Sagolmang Higher Secondary School, Imphal East.

In a release, SSUM stated that during the drive the SSUM team found that the Mahatma Gandhi Samarak Junior High School had more number of teachers than number of students. Some classes had no students at all, it added.

The school had three teachers who had received star education, it mentioned. It drew the attention of the authorities concerned, and suggested the authorities to “resolve such issues by adjusting from such schools with an abundant number of teachers with those understaffed schools.”

“Meanwhile, the students of Sagolmang Higher Secondary School were waiting for their teachers,” it continued. Stating that the school was understaffed, it added that the school had no teachers for Physics, Maths, History, and Home Science.

The release urged the school principal, local MLA and the authorities concerned to take up immediate action on the issue for the sake of education for the students.
