Implementation of National Education Policy, 2020 in Manipur would become a major issue for the students if the state government and concerned departments failed to appoint regular principal and teaching staffs where their respective post had been lying vacant since years, secretary general of Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), M Somorjit Luwang said on Sunday.
Addressing the media at its head office located at Kwakeithel Bazaar, Somorjit said that with the lack of regular principal in 24 government colleges and six government aided colleges, the quality of education is degrading in the state.
In the said colleges, the post of regular principal and teaching staff are lying vacant and the post of the principal has been carried by in-charge-principal for years, he said.
DESAM demands rationalisation of teachers and staff on the basis of their concerned subjects. The lack of infrastructures in such colleges is giving a huge indirect impact to the students, he said.
He said that DESAM has been demanding the same and mounting pressure on the state government and concerned departments to fill the vacant post with qualified teachers.
Despite the various demands made by the student body, the state government has been failing to fulfil the demands despite assurance given to fulfil the demand, said Somorjit. He said instead of fulfilling the demands the state government has not initiated any procedure till date.
DESAM also demanded identifying some of the colleges and starting the process for appointment of regular principal and staff where the respective post had been lying vacant for years. The student body also demanded conducting recruitment for those selected colleges at one time.
He said under NEP, 2020 the four years undergraduate course will commence from the coming academic session. If regular principals and staff are not appointed in time then implementation of the policy will become a major issue in the education sector of Manipur, said Somorjit.
