Manipur to get first ‘national standard’ co-ed residential school: UNACCO

The first national standard co-ed residential school of Manipur will be opened at a location in Chanung, Imphal East in February 2023.

UNACCO on its 21st foundation day on Tuesday announced the opening of the first national standard co-ed residential school of Manipur at a location in Chanung, Imphal East measuring a total of 50 acres in February 2023.

UNACCO chairman N Irabanta, while speaking at the foundation day celebration that was held at campus of the upcoming residential school, said that good education and health care have become essential for a society to move forward.

He said that the people of the state unfortunately rely on outside states to get the best education and health care due to lack of certain facilities in Manipur, thereby draining the economy of the state.   

The UNACCO has given its best emphasis in the education sector, keeping in consideration that good and quality education as the key to a progressive society, he added.

Irabanta said that 45 acres of the upcoming school campus will be utilised for the construction of various complexes of different disciplines for the recreational activities of the students.

The complexes will be constructed for hockey, football, cricket, running tracks, swimming pool among others for traditional sports and indoor games, he said.  50 per cent of the staff who are well qualified and have good experience will be recruited from other states, he added.

Irabanta further pointed out that many parents spend around Rs. 15 lakh per year in sending their wards to national standard residential schools outside the state. Besides the expenditure, the students face issues about weather and food habits.

With the upcoming of the UNACCO residential school, the spending of the parents will be reduced, he further said, adding, the school has decided to charge at the reasonable rate of only Rs. 2 lakh for class 4 and 5 and only Rs. 2.2 lakh for class 6 to 8. UNACCO is also planning to introduce a college in 2023, he added.

Delivering the chief guest speech, MLA Th Lokeshwar stressed the importance of human resource in this modern society.

He said educational institutes can create enough resources and enlighten the society.

He extended appreciation to the UNACCO for their efforts in giving quality education. It is believed that the upcoming UNACCO residential school will be among the top schools in the country, he added. 

He also mentioned that he made a deal in principle with the chairman of UNACCO for widening and blacktopping of the road leading to the upcoming UNACCO school from Taretkhul.

Of the 16 students of UNACCO School who have cracked the NEET Examination, four of them were felicitated during Tuesday's celebration.

Earlier in the morning, MLA RK Imo had released the UNACCO’s yearly calendar and diary besides planting tree saplings at the campus of the upcoming school campus.

The foundation day celebration was also witnessed by various bureaucrats, entrepreneurs besides faculties and students of the UNACCO.
