Manipur Minister H Dingo calls for introducing moral education in Anganwadi centres

Minister Dingo was the chief guest at the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Annual Meet, 2022 held at Tribal Research Institute in Imphal.

With concerns to the declining morality among the youths of the generation, Social Welfare Minister H Dingo on Saturday stressed the need of teaching moral education to the kids starting from the Anganwadi classes.

He was delivering the chief guest speech during the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Annual Meet, 2022 held at Tribal Research Institute in Imphal. It was organised by Apunba Manipurgi ICDS Supervisor Association (AMISA).

The minister said that infusion of lessons which can teach certain ways and behaviour that needs to be followed in order to mingle and get along in society in the Anganwadi classes will be a great initiative in grooming the future pillars in terms of morality and behaviour.

Asserting that the Social Welfare department is one of the most important departments which is truly dedicated for the wellbeing of the society by introducing various welfare schemes, he apprised the officers and all staff of the department to work with full cooperation and transparency to make it the leading and best department in Manipur.

Social Welfare director Ng Uttam informed that the staff of ICDS will no longer face the issue of pending salary as the department is working on a specific mechanism with the Finance department to pay the salary of the ICDS staff on time without waiting for the Centre fund.

Further informing that the Anganwadi Centres will be introducing formal education under the new NEP, 2021, he said in regard to it, the department is working on to take up rhymes training classes for Anganwadi workers in batch wise.

In regard to the inactive Anganwadi workers who are not operating the centre full-fledged, the director asked the people to report such workers to the department if there is any.

Retired SPO of ICDS Tabitha Shimray pointed out various loopholes of ICDS and highlighted the need to streamline the transfer and posting policy, the need to look into matters of manipulation of the services and the need to timely fill the vacant post.

Stressing on the role of the supervisor, Shimray explained the importance of physical participation of the field workers by supervisors and the need to have cooperation and understanding with the other staff.

The function was also attended by secretary of Social Welfare N Geoffrey as president; CFO of Social Welfare Md Ziour Rahaman; joint director of Social Welfare Bantee Singh Konthoujam as guest of honour.
