Manipur Education Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen Saturday announced the modalities for awarding marks for examinations for Class X and XII exams conducted by Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) respectively.

Addressing the media in a press conference held at its office chamber, Secretariat Babupara on Saturday, Rajen said that modalities was decided by Assessment Committee which was formed in the presence of officials of Education department, BOSEM and COHSEM consisting of 17 members and chaired by commissioner of Education, M Harekrishna.

The minister said that for Class X, of the total 100 marks, 20 marks will be counted from internal assessment, 30 marks will be based on their Class IX results and remaining 50 marks will be given after assessing their performance in the class test and attendance.

“Despite having COVID-19, classes were conducted at least for a few months as usual even during the pandemic which is between January to March. So the remaining 50 marks will be counted from the performance shown by students during this period,” he explained.

For Class XII, the minister said that 30 percent of the students’ marks will be counted from the marks scored in Class X board examinations, which will be calculated by selecting three subjects that have highest scores. Another 20 percent will be taken from marks scored in Class XI and remaining 50 marks will be calculated on class performance during Class XII as classes were conducted at least for some months such as before onset of COVID and short period of stability from pandemic, he added.

However, Rajen announced that there will be no provision for position holders this time. Moreover, the policy of giving rewards to the best students from government schools and teachers for scoring high marks will also be cancelled, he said.
Any students who are not satisfied with this policy can have the opportunity to write the examinations once the pandemic is calmed down, Rajen added.

The minister also said that many students had complained regarding not being able to apply registration forms for the said examinations. The issue will be discussed in cabinet as COHSEM and BOSEM alone cannot take the decision.

Altogether 44,068 students had registered to appear for Class X examination. Of which 22,211 are boys and 21,859 are girls. On the other hand, 30,552 students had registered to write the Class XII examination. The results for both the examinations will be out by July 31, he informed.
