Manipur Education Minister Rajen sees NEP 2020 as golden opportunity to replenish old value system

Manipur Education Minister S Rajen Singh on Saturday said that with the introduction of NEP (National Education Policy) 2020, the state has got a golden opportunity to replenish the society with age-old traditions and value system while achieving Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs).

Rajen was speaking at the two-day North East Education Conclave held at Guwahati Medical College, Assam, on November 20-21, which was chaired by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The aim of education in ancient India was not just the acquisition of knowledge as preparation for life in this world or life beyond schooling but for complete realization and liberation of “SELF”, he said.

The minister maintained that Manipur has been focusing on developmental works related to Education Sector, especially under School Fagathansi Mission. He said the government, particularly the education department, has been trying to give government schools a makeover in its infrastructure and all requirements of an educational institution. The fruits of our SFM initiative could be seen in the recent enrolments, he added.

The minister also highlighted that Manipur, being the Jewel of India, has been bestowed with its rich culture and heritage. Rajen also informed that regarding higher education the government has started functioning National Scheme of RUSA from 2018. However, the funding received to support is not enough and more financial grants shall be required for further growth and progress of the University.

Rajen also informed that in addition to Dhanamanjuri University, the Manipur Technical University offering Technical courses have been functioning without proper campus. But now, 116 acres of land has been allotted for setting up of the University Campus. Proposal submitted for establishment of permanent Campus at the site allotted through the Ministry of DONER, Government of India under 10 per cent GBS needs positive consideration, minister added.

Minister Rajen also explained regarding many more initiatives of the state government to improve the education sector in the state.
