Speaking at the event, a student said that the school with about 1,200 students from class VI to class XII had only 40 teachers. The school requires at least 90 teachers to function properly, he added.
Although eight teachers had retired and the government had transferred 16 teachers a couple of months ago, the vacancies they left had not been filled yet, he said. Condemning the authorities for ignoring their demands to fill the vacant posts for teachers, he urged the immediate intervention of the state government.
One guardian of a student of the school expressed disappointment, stating that most of the students studying in the Heirok Higher Secondary School are from impoverished families that cannot afford the fees of private schools.
It can be mentioned that the Heirok Higher Secondary School has the most students passed in the 2022 metric examination, among all government schools in Thoubal district.
