Bagging 18th position in the class-12 examination in science stream, Laimayum Riya, a daughter of a farmer, has exemplified the saying “with hard work and dedication everything is possible” irrespective of who you are.
Riya, a student of TG Higher Secondary School and from Heirok part (ii) Maning leikai, whose father Laimayum Manglem Sharma, a farmer, and mother Laimayum ongbi Rita devi, a housewife, desires to become a doctor.
In an interview with Imphal Free Press, Riya said she has been preparing for the NEET examination. She studied in Eastern Popular English School Heirok, a school in her locality till class VII and later went to KM Blooming Higher Secondary school from class VIII till X.
Shy by nature since childhood, Riya likes listening to music. She said she has been studying every day for four hours and then for eight hours before the exams. Despite getting 18th position, she said she felt dejected as she was expecting to be in the top 10.
She spoke against drug abuse among the youths and urged the youths to focus more on studies and to use mobile phones for good cause. Riya credited her teachers and parents for her success.
Riya’s father Manglem said that he will provide whatever he can for his daughter despite being a farmer.
