In continuation of DESAM's protest against the recruitment of pre-primary teachers, members of DESAM burned effigies of the Education minister, director, and commissioner in widespread protests at Thoubal Market in Thoubal district on Monday.

Speaking to the media, DESAM Thoubal District Council secretary general Keisham Robinson said recruitment of untrained teachers for pre-primary schools is unacceptable. He underscored the necessity to recruit trained teachers to strengthen the education system.

He further demanded the release of the three arrested leaders of DESAM without any conditions.

He said that if untrained individuals can become teachers, the state government should allow XII-passed students to practice as doctors and engineers without formal courses.
