The Federal Students’ Organisation of Kangleipak (FESOK) has demanded the authorities concerned to conduct the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in Manipur as well.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not selected Manipur as examination centre for the second phase of the CUET examination, Fesok member N Rikesh Mangang told mediapersons on Monday.
Such a decision has created inconveniences for many students from Manipur who want to pursue masters’ degree in the state, he said.
The vice chancellor of Manipur University and education minister of the state should take up an initiative to conduct a second CUET examination in the state as well, he suggested.
He further said that NTA is conducting CUET forunder-graduate and postgraduate in different universities of India and that for post graduate, as many as 2,90,490 students had applied in order to get admission in 44 different varsities of India.
Manipur University is the fifth most registered university and many of the students who applied to Manipur are from within the state while some are from outside state, he said.
Amid this situation, not providing Manipur as examination centre for CUET is unacceptable, he said while stating that “despite choosing Manipur as their first preference of examination centre, they are not getting the opportunity to appear the exam in the state. The testing agency assigned them to appear for the exam in states like Guwahati, Dispur, Itanagar, Aizawl.”
He said that maximum students from Manipur are economically backward and are beyond their capability to afford the expense of appearing for the examination outside the state. If the authorities concerned do not initiate any alternative arrangement to conduct the exam, many students are in the condition to lose the chance of giving the examination, he added.
