The All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union (AMGSU) conducted an online debate competition on India's Independence Day under various topics for students of Class VIII (Category A), Class IX-Class X (Category B), Class XI-Class XII (Category C) and general public (Category D).
A total of 46 students participated in the event. The participants were required to either speak 'for’ or 'against' the topic in Nepali language.
In category (A), Bishal Siwakoti of Charhajare and Sujal Ghimire of Kanglatongbi Hatikhuwa bagged the first and second position while in category (B), Lila Krishna Basnet Chhetri of Toribari and Pooja Uprety of Parsain secured the first and second position respectively.
In category (C), Saraswati Basnet of Toribari, Pratima Kharel of Kanglatongbi Hatikhuwa and Pretty Bhattarai of Koirengi Bazar bagged first, second and third position respectively while in category (D), Pravin Koirala of Kanglatongbi Hatikhuwa and Prema Basnet of Toribari secured first position and Sanjay Gautam of Tispari Kanglatongbi and Mamta Adhikari of Serou Part-3 secured second and third position respectively.
Thanking all the judges, participants and the organising team for the successful organisation of the event, AMGSU education secretary, Janak Poudyal said that the dates of prize distribution ceremony for the meritorious participants will be announced as soon as the prevalent lockdown is lifted.
He also said that AMGSU will continue organising such events in the future and expect more participants in the events.
