11 CAU students to attend three-month training in Philippines

Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal stated that 11 students will undertake training on agriculture and its related activities in foreign institutes like the International Rice Research Institute in Philippines.

As many as 11 students of Bsc (Agriculture) fourth year of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal selected for a three-month training at Zeigler Experiment Station, International Rice Research Institute (IRRL), Los Banos, Philippines were flagged off on Saturday.

In a release, CAU, Imphal stated on Saturday that the said training is sponsored by the Institutional Development Plan-National Agricultural Higher Education Project (IDP-NAHEP), funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi through the World Bank.

It informed that the 11 selected students are Ribalin K Wanniang (Meghalaya), Rangjang Sonam (Arunachal Pradesh), Lis Syrti (Meghalaya). Niyanta Chettri (Sikkim), Joram Metu (Arunachal Pradesh), Riza Karmakar (Tripura), Sourav Banik (Tripura), Dharavath Nagaraju (Telangana), Sinheiba Ngangbam (Manipur), Bandela Chandana (Telangana) and Ningombam Nita Devi (Manipur). They were selected on the basis of their academic performance and exam conducted at the college.

The flagging-off programme was hosted by the dean, College of Agriculture, Iroisemba, professor Indira Sarangthem at the College Campus and Tulihal Airport. The students will undertake training on agriculture and its related activities in Foreign institutes like IRRL, it added.

It stated that the dean thanked the principle investigators, IDP-NAHEP Soibam Basanta Singh, director of Instructions, CAU, Imphal for providing an opportunity for the students to travel and to get exposure towards international Institutes of Agricultural Sciences like IRRI in their undergraduate level.

Singh also conveyed her gratitude to vice chancellor of CAU Dr Anupam Mishra for his encouragement and support in ensuring the project's effective implementation.
