Responding to the continuous rise of positive cases in Tengnoupal district, a medical team conducted random Covid Tests at Moreh Bazaar and Moreh Gate No II area and Namphalong approach road on Saturday during which 10 positive cases have been detected.
The medical team assisted by Moreh police under the supervision of additional SP (law and order) Sukumar and officer in charge Moreh Police Station Anand, was led by chief medical officer Tengnoupal Dr N Gojen under the aegis of district administration Tengnoupal. The Moreh police team also distributed masks during the drive.
Over 330 persons were tested and 10 positive cases were detected. Six of them are from Moreh while four are Myanmarese vendors. Speaking to the media at the testing site, chief medical officer Tengnoupal Dr N Gojen said that the random Covid tests are being conducted after the continued increase in positive cases in Tengnoupal district of Manipur.
Around 21 positive cases were found in Tengnoupal district till January 19. Of the total, six are from Moreh town. He said that Moreh being a business centre, people from different parts of the state and many businessmen from Myanmar come to this town.
He stressed that a strict vigil is needed to control the spread of COVID-19 in this border town. He said that a target of 500 RAT is planned but today being the first day, only 333 persons were successfully tested. If the number of Covid cases increases in the future, the Indo-Myanmar border should be closed completely, he said.
A memorandum has been submitted to the district administration in this regard, he says.
