Not one of the eight states in Northeast India reported COVID-19 death on Wednesday and consequently the death toll in the region remained unchanged, while the cumulative death toll in other parts of India climbed to 5,28,057, according to the latest data updated by the Union Health Ministry.
The COVID-19 death toll in Assam remained 8,033, highest count among all states in Northeast India as of Wednesday, according to the ministry.
The toll in Manipur and Meghalaya stood at 2,148 and 1,619 respectively, while it has reached 938 in Tripura, 779 in Nagaland, 722 in Mizoram, 492 in Sikkim, 296 in Arunachal Pradesh, lowest among all states in Northeast India.
Meanwhile, India witnessed a single day rise of 5,379 more COVID-19 positive cases, taking the country’s positive caseload to 4,44,72,241 as of Wednesday, the ministry stated.
The cumulative number of recoveries reached 4,38,93,590. Consequently, the cumulative number of active cases declined to 50,594. The active cases constituted 0.11 per cent of the total caseload, the ministry said.
India’s COVID-19 recovery rate increased to 98.70 per cent, and the daily positivity rate and weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.67 per cent and 2 per cent respectively, while the fatality rate stood at 1.19 per cent.
Meanwhile, 88.80 crore total tests have been conducted so far; 3,21,917 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, the ministry stated.
And, over 213.91 crore doses of Covid vaccines have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
