Meghalaya's COVID-19 confirmed cases reach 84,847 with eight new cases

All the new COVID-19 cases detected in Meghalaya were from East Khasi Hills district of the state.

Meghalaya on Sunday reported eight new COVID-19 positive cases, but no fresh fatality. The state’s COVID-19 confirmed caseload reached 84,847, official sources said.

All the new COVID-19 cases were detected in East Khasi Hills district of the state, the sources said. The state has now tested over 12.53 lakh samples for COVID-19.

With the report of new cases, the number of COVID-19 active across the state climbed to 75, while the death toll from the pandemic remained unchanged at 1,484, state Health Services director Dr Aman War.

The total number of recoveries in the state rose to 83,288, as seven more patients recovered from the illness in a span of 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Health Services director said the state health department is launching the vaccination drive for children between the age group 15-18 years on Monday (January 3).

So far, a total of 20.29 lakh people have been vaccinated till Saturday. Of it, a total of 8,42,275 people across the state have been fully vaccinated, the state health services said.
