Meghalaya on Saturday recorded 13 more COVID-19 related deaths, pushing the death toll to 1,213, while the state's COVID-19 caseload surged to 71,045 with the addition of 384 new positive cases, official sources said.
Of the 13 deaths, nine were reported from East Khasi Hills district, while one death each was reported from Ri Bhoi district, West Garo Hills district, West Jaintia Hills district and West Khasi Hills district, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
With the new positive cases, the number of COVID-19 active cases in Meghalaya stands at 4,513 as of Saturday.
The new COVID-19 positive cases included 146 from East Khasi Hills, 47 each from West Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills, 40 from Ri Bhoi, 53 from West Jaintia Hills, four each from East Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills, three each from North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills and two from East Jaintia Hills.
Dr War also informed that as many as 397 persons have recovered from the viral infection during the same period. The cumulative number of recovered cases is 65,319 as of Saturday.
The new recoveries included 87 from East Khasi Hills, 105 from West Garo Hills, 53 from West Jaintia Hills, 83 from West Khasi Hills, seven from East Garo Hills, 11 each from North Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills, seven from South Garo Hills, 19 from East Jaintia Hills, six from Ri Bhoi and eight from South West Khasi Hills.
East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst COVID-19 affected district in the state with 1,953 active cases, followed by West Khasi Hills with 652 and West Garo Hills with 492 cases.
The remaining 417 COVID-19 active cases are in West Jaintia Hills, 494 Ri Bhoi, 266 South West Khasi Hills, 48 East Jaintia Hills, 49 North Garo Hills, 51 East Garo Hills, 40 South West Garo Hills and 51 South Garo Hills.
