Manipur's COVID-19 tally surges to 5,246

The state reported 114 new positive cases, including 47 Central security personnel

The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Manipur rose to 5,246 on Sunday with 67 new positive cases reported from  general population and 47 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the state health department said.

Of the 67 new COVID-19 positive cases from the genaral population, seven are returnees from other state while the rest 60 are locals with no travel history.  A total of 35 new cases are from Imphal West, five from Bishnupur, 17 from Imphal East, one from Chandel, six from Thoubal and one each from Kakching, Noney and Ukhrul, a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

All positive cases have been shifted to COVID-19 care facilities in the state and necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.

Meanwhile, the recovery rate inceased to 68.92 per cent  on Sunday.  There is no report of death. The cumulative number of deaths remains 22, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Additional Director & Spokesperson Health Department, Manipur, said in a release.

The active cases and recovered cases are 1,608 nad 3,616 respectively, and 161 persons were discharged, he stated..
