Manipur continued to witness fresh surge in daily COVID-19 positive cases as daily positive tally climbed to 59 on Thursday and one more COVID-19 patient from Imphal east died in the last 24 hours, official sources said.
With it, the state's COVID-19 confirmed caseload reached 1,25,964 and the death toll climbed to 2009 as of Thursday. Consequently, the state's daily positivity rate rose to 2.9 per cent, a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.
Of the new positive cases, 16 are personnel of the Central Armed Police Force, the release stated.
As many as 23 new cases are from Imphal West, nine from Imphal East, one each from Bishnupur, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Noney, Tamenglong, Senapati and Thoubal. Six are from Churachandpur and 14 from Ukhrul.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release from the Covid-19 Common Control Room stated.
The state also recorded 10 new recoveries, pushing the cumulative number of COVID-19 recoveries to 1,23,639. The recovery rate fell further to 98.15 per cent and the number of active cases surged to 316 from 257 on Tuesday, the release stated.

So far, 14,70,621 samples have been tested for COVID-19 across the state. The total number of people who have been administered the vaccine has reached 23,32,610.
As of January 5, a total of 600 D-type oxygen cylinders and 170 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours, the release added.
