Manipur records highest single-day COVID-19 deaths; confirmed tally crosses 19000 mark

COVID-19 claimed nine more lives in Manipur on Monday

Despite the state government order of new SOP guidelines in the state to effectively combat COVID-19 surge in Manipur, the state on Monday recorded the highest single-day COVID-19 deaths, pushing the death toll to 180 and the confirmed tally crossed the 19000 mark.

In the last 24 hours, as per the latest updates by the cOVID-19 Common Control Room, nine persons, one aged 55 years female from Imphal West, 58 year-old male from Imphal West, 35-year-old male from Bishnupur, 80-year-old male from Imphal West, 71-year-old male from Imphal West, 70-year-old male from Imphal West, 43-year-old male from Thoubal, 77-year-old female from Thoubal and 55-year-old female from Thoubal died at Raj Medicity (2), RIMS (4) and JNIMS (3) respectively. The cumulative number of deaths is 180, it stated.

The cumulative number of positive cases rose to  19,091, including general population 16,303 and Central Security personnel 2,788, as 313 persons from the general population and 28 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases, the release stated.

The release stated that the positive cases from the general population included 149 from Imphal West, 78 from Imphal East, 43 from Thoubal, two each from Kangpokpi and Noney, one from Ukhrul, nine from Bishnupur, three from Senapati, 22 from Tamenglong and four from Tengnoupal.

All are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.

The total number of discharged persons is 278. A total of 131 from isolation recovered on Monday. The cumulative number of recovered cases is 15,343 (General Population - 12,881 and Central Security Personnel - 2,462). With it, the number of active cases is 3,568 (General Population – 3,246 and Central Security Personnel - 322). The recovery rate now stands at 80.36 per cent.

Self-isolate yourself immediately if you were in contact with a positive person, Contact Covid Control Room or CMO for testing, the health department stated.
