Manipur COVID-19 tally rises to 3,753; 118 more persons test positive

Seventy-one locals without any significant travel history tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur rose to 3,753 on Sunday after 118 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, official sources said.

Of the new positive cases, 90 persons, 63 males and 27 females, are from general population and 28 are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

Among the 90 general positive cases, 28 are from Imphal East, 13 from Thoubal, 12 from Churachandpur, 11 from Kangpokpi, 10 from Imphal West, nine from Chandel and one each from Ukhrul and Jiribam, it stated.

Only 19 out of the general positive cases are returnees from other states while the rest 71 are locals without any significant travel history, the release added.

At least 117 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. With it, the cumulative number of discharged cases and active cases is 2,044 and 1,698 respectively.

Of the total 3,753 positive cases in the state, 2,930 are from general population and 823 are Central security personnel.

The new positive cases are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Additional Director and spokesperson, Health Department, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said.

On Saturday, Manipur reported 169 new cases and one COVID-19 death, taking the state's total death toll to 11.

Meanwhile, the state health department warned the public against the use of chlorine dioxide releasing Plastic Cord Device "Virus Shout Out" made in foreign countries.

"Chlorine dioxide in aqueous solution is used in disinfection of drinking water. The virus destroying capacity in the spray form or slowly emitting gas form is not yet established, it stated. The state health department does not recommend its use in prevention of COVID-19 pandemic. The public must be weary of use of such unproven devices, it added.
