Manipur COVID-19 positive cases surge to 921

Twenty-three more persons, five males and 18 females, tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, state health department said on Tuesday.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur surged to 921 as 23 more persons, five males and 18 females, tested positive for the novel coronavirus, state health department said on Tuesday.

According to a release issued by health department spokesperson and additional director Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, the new cases were confirmed at the VRDLs of RIMS and JNIMS in Imphal.

Of the new cases, Senapati reported 11 cases, Imphal West six, while Chandel and Kangpokpi reported two cases each. One case each was reported from Churachandpur and Kakching, Dr Mangang stated.

With these new cases, the state has 663 active COVID-19 cases.

The number of recovered cases in the state increased to 258 as eight more persons, five from Imphal West, one from Kakching and two from Noney, were discharged from the COVID Care Centre at UNACCO on Tuesday after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. The recovery rate now is 28.01 per cent.

Dr Mangang stated that the new cases confirmed on Tuesday are being shifted to Covid Care Facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment measures and contact tracing are in place, he added.

Meanwhile, the state health department has asked the managers of Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF) to facilitate training of the Health care workers and rigorous implementation of Infection Prevention and Control Protocols (IPCP) in their respective institutions.

Healthcare workers are constantly facing hazards, like pathogens, physical stress, metal strain, fatigue and distractions. Protection of healthcare workers is necessary to preserve the health of the people, the health department said.
