The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Wednesday questioned the state government regarding compensation policies for COVID-19 victims and motive of curfew extension in the name of combating the pandemic.

The meeting was chaired by MPCC president N Loken Singh; CLP leader, O Ibobi Singh; Congress Working Committee member, Gaikhangam; MPCC former president, TN Haokip; MPCC former president, M Okendro along with MLAs and former MLAs of the party except a few who had informed prior to the party president for their absence.

A release issued by MPCC signed by its general secretary (Media), S Jeeten Singh has stated that after minute discussion of the meeting, the party took various decisions in accordance with the theme of the meet.

MPCC would like to know from the BJP-led government about the compensation policies and programmes for COVID-19 victims taken up so far. As the condition is worsening in the state, the present government should answer the questions without fail.

The party also wanted to know the motive of the curfew extension as it has already proven that curfew is not the ultimate solution to combat the pandemic, it added.

It further stated that MPCC would stand firm in fighting against the alarming situation of COVID-19 pandemic as usual. They also took the decision to draw attention of the state government in ensuring the basic amenities of health care and other necessary benefits among all the people affected by COVID-19.

The MPCC will extend support in providing all possible means and ends which may be availed through government's sponsored schemes and under the Disaster Management Act 2005, it added.

During the meeting, the party members decided on further strengthening the Congress party by making new political developments within the party.

Apart from this, the MPCC would try to reach out to every section of the state so as to recognise and acknowledge the common needs of the state's welfare. It was also resolved to fight collectively with all possible effort and energy in the upcoming assembly election 2022 to bring the party back in power in Manipur with absolute majority, the release added.
