Kerala logs highest COVID-19 active cases in India

Kerala now has the highest number of COVID-19 active caseload in India, surpassing that of Maharashtra, which has the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and COVID-19 deaths in the country so far.

Kerala today has 25,911 total COVID-19 active cases, the highest in India, crossing that of Maharashtra - 24,867 COVID-19 active caseload, according to official sources on Friday. 

As per the latest update by the Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra, however, reported the highest daily spike in new COVID-19 positive cases at 5,218, while Kerala reported 3,890 new positive cases, followed by Delhi with 1,934 new positive cases as of Friday.

Meanwhile, India's total COVID-19 confirmed caseload rose to 4,33,62,294 with the latest report of total 17,336 new cases nationwide, while the death toll rose to 5,24,954 as 13 more succumbed to the disease. The total number of recoveries reached 4,27,49,056, as 13,029 more patients recovered.

Following it, India's COVID-19 active caseload currently stands at 88,284, 0.20 per cent of the total confirmed caseload, while the recovery rate currently is 98.59 per cent.

The country's daily positivity rate rose to 4.32 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate moved to 3.07 per cent.

So far, COVID-19 has claimed as many as 1,47,893 lives in Maharashtra, the highest death toll among all states and Union territories in India, followed by Kerala - 69,924, Karnataka - 40,114, Tamil Nadu - 38,026, and Delhi - 26,242.  

Meanwhile 85.98 crore total tests have been conducted so far. As many as 4,01,649 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. And, 196.77 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive.
