India's single day COVID-19 death toll surges to 157

India's death toll mounted to 5,27,754, while the confirmed caseload reached 4,44,08,132, with 9,436 more COVID-19 positive cases.

India on Sunday reported a surge in single day COVID-19 death toll of 157 as against Saturday's report of 41 deaths in a span of 24 hours, and 9,436 more COVID-19 positive cases, official sources said.

According to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry, India's death toll mounted to 5,27,754, while the confirmed caseload reached 4,44,08,132, including 4,37,93,787 total recoveries and 86,591 active cases.

Goa reported 101 more COVID-19 deaths, highest among all, while Kerala report 28 deaths, Maharashtra six, Delhi five, Chhattisgarh four, West Bengal three, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat two each, and Odisha, Rajasthan, Punjab and Sikkim one each on Sunday. 

Meanwhile, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 211.66 Cr  (2,11,66,35,408) as per provisional reports till 7 am on Sunday. This has been achieved through 2,82,08,570 sessions, the ministry stated in a release.

The release mentioned that so far, 4,02,51,855 adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 15,20,81,590 precaution doses have have been administered across the country.

A total of 3,22,551 more COVID-19 tests were conducted. India has so far has conducted over 88,50,42,801 cumulative tests. Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 2.70% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 2.93%.
