India's COVID-19 tally nears 91 lakh mark

A total of 45,209 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Saturday.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in India reached 90,95,806 on Sunday with the report of 45,209 new cases being reported in a day, while the death toll climbed to 13,32,27 with 501 new fatalities, the Union Health Ministry said.

The number of active cases stood at 44,09,62, which comprises 4.86 per cent of the total confirmed cases and over 85.21 lakh patients have recuperated from the disease.

The total number of recovered cases in the country is now 85,21,617 with 43,493 new recoveries. The national recovery rate is 93.67 per cent, according to the Health Ministry's latest updates.

 Delhi recorded the highest number of positive cases in a day with 5,879 cases. The positivity rate in the national capital is 12.90 per cent. Delhi also saw 111 more fatalities, pushing the death toll to 8,270, the Health Ministry stated.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst COVID-19 affected state in the country with over 17.74 lakh cases. There are 80,878 active cases in the state and the death toll stood at 46,573.  Maharashtra recorded 5,760 fresh COVID-19 cases and 62 deaths in a span of 24 hours.

So far a total of 13,17,33,134 samples have been tested for COVID-19 across the country. Of these, 10,75,326 samples were tested on Saturday.
