India’s COVID-19 tally on Monday surpassed 60 lakh as 82,170 new positive cases were reported in a span of 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said.
According to the Health Ministry's latest data, the total number of COVID-19 cases in India is 60,74,703, including 9,62,640 active cases and 5,01,6521 recoveries. As many as 1,039 people have succumbed to the disease in a span of a day, taking the total death toll 95,542, the Health Ministry said.
While the active caseload records at 15.96 per cent of the total positive cases, the national recovery rate is now nearly 82 per cent.
“This high rate of daily recoveries has sustained India’s leading global position as the country with the maximum number of recovered cases. As India records more recoveries than the new cases, the gap between percentage of recovered cases and the percentage of active cases is continuously increasing. The gap currently is nearly 4 million,” the Health Ministry stated.
India has so far conducted more than seven crore tests (7,19,67,230) for COVID-19. Of these, 7,09,394 samples were collected in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst COVID-19-affected state in the country with 13,39,232 confirmed cases, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 6,75,674 and Tamil Nadu with 5,80,808 cases.
