India's COVID-19 tally crosses 6-lakh-mark; 19,148 new cases reported in last 24 hours

Maharashtra is the worst-hit state with 1,80,298 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 94,049 cases and Delhi with 89,802 cases.

The number of COVID-19 infections in India surpassed six lakh on Thursday as 19,148 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.

As per the Health Ministry's data, the total number of novel coronavirus in India is 6,04,641, including 2,26,947 active cases and 3,59,859 recovered cases. The death toll in the country stood at 17,834, with 434 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Of them, 198 deaths are reported from Maharashtra, 63 from Tamil Nadu, 61 from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat reported 21 deaths each, 15 from West Bengal, nine from Madhya Pradesh, eight from Rajasthan, Telangana and Karnataka reported seven deaths each, six from Andhra Pradesh, five from Punjab, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir reported four each. While Bihar reported three deaths, Chhattisgarh and Goa reported one death each.

India is the fourth worst-hit country by the coronavirus pandemic preceded by Russia with 661,165 cases, Brazil with 1,453,369 cases and the US with 2,779,953, according to Worldometer data.
