India's Covid-19 positive caseload has mounted to 53,08,014 and the number of recoveries and deaths has surged to 42,08,431 and 85,619 respectively, according to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Saturday.
In a span of 24 hours as reported on Saturday morning, the country recorded 93,337 new infections and 95,880 new recoveries from COVID-19 during the same period, the ministry said, pushing the total recovery rate to 79.28 per cent. As many as 1,247 deaths were also reported. The COVID-19 case fatality rate, however, has dropped at 1.61 per cent, the ministry data showed.
Of the 1,247 new deaths, 440 are from Maharashtra, 179 from Karnataka, 98 from Uttar Pradesh, 67 each from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, 62 from Punjab and 59 from West Bengal. Delhi recorded 30 new deaths yesterday, pushing the death toll to 4,907 deaths.
The number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 10,13,964 countrywide of the cumulative 6,24,54,254 COVID-19 samples tested up to September 18. As many as 8,81,911 were tested on Friday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.
Over 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to comorbidities, the health ministry stated.
