India continued to maintain a declining trend COVID-19 cases as it reported the lowest daily new COVID-19 cases of 1.52 lakh in 50 days, the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry said on Monday.
India's active caseload also decreased by 88,416 in the last 24 hours to 20,26,092, while the total number of recoveries rose to 2,56,92,342, as 2,38,022 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. The number of recoveries continued to outnumber the daily new cases for the 18th consecutive day.
With the rise in the number of recoveries, the nationwide Recovery Rate increased to 91.60 per cent, while the current weekly positivity rate stood at 9.04 per cent.
The data from the ministry shows India's daily positivity rate at 9.07 per cent, less than 10 per cent for seven consecutive days.
COVID-19 testing capacity has been substantially ramped up. In all, 34.48 crore tests have been conducted across the country, while the Nationwide Vaccination Drive has reported 21.3 crore vaccine doses administered so far.
Meanwhile, Centre is in talks with chemical firms like Pfizer. If the talks succeeds, timeline of completing vaccination by year-end will change, the Solicitor general told the Supreme Cort on Monday.
The country has so far reported a total of 3,29,100 deaths due to COVID-19. The number of COVID-19 deaths is highest in Maharashtra with 94,844, followed by 28,679 from Karnataka and 24,151 from Delhi.
