India reports highest single-day spike of 83,883 COVID-19 positive cases

The countrywide COVID-19 positive tally rose to 38,53,406 cases on Thursday morning, the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry said.

India continues to record jump in new COVID-19 positive cases. Thursday morning recorded 83,883 new positive cases, the highest spike in a single day, pushing the countrywide positive tally to 38,53,406 cases, the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry said.

India’s COVID-19 active tally has shot up to 8,15,538 as of Thursday morning, according to the 8 am data issued by the Health Ministry.

India’s COVID-19 recovery: The nationwide number of recoveries has surged to 29,70,492. With it, the recovery rate stands at 77.09 per cent.

India’s COVID-19 death toll: Till date, 67,376 have succumbed to the disease as 1,043 more COVID-19 patients have died in a span of 24 hours till 8 am. The fatality rate due to the infection has declined to 1.75 per cent, according to the ministry.

There are 8,15,538 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprise 21.16 per cent of the total caseload, the data stated.

Meanwhile, a total of 4,55,09,380 samples have been tested up to September 2 with 11,72,179 samples being tested on Wednesday -- the highest in a day so far, the Indian Council of Medical Research said.
