India reports 86,821 new Covid-19 cases; tally crosses 63-lakh mark

The total number of Covid-19 cases in India is  63,12,585.

India’s Covid-19 tally on Thursday crossed the 63-lakh mark with a spike of 86,821 fresh cases being reported in a span of24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.

According to the Health Ministry's latest data, the total number of Covid-19 cases in India is  63,12,585. A total of 1,181 people died due to Covid-19 in a span of a day, pushing the death poll to 98,678, it stated.

Of 63,12,585 total cases, India’s active cases account for 9,40,705 while 52,73,202 patients have already been discharged/cured/migrated.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with 2,59,462 active cases and 36,662 deaths, followed by Karnataka and Kerala with 1,07,635 and 67,140 active cases respectively.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 7,56,19,781 samples have been tested for Covid-19 as of September 30. Of these, 14,23,052 tests were conducted on Wednesday.

Also, the fatality rate in India due to Covid-19 has been one of the lowest as compared to the rest of the countries, and the recovery rate has also risen to 83.5 per cent.

The Health Ministry further said that about 76 per cent of the new Covid-19 cases are concentrated in 10 states and Union Territories, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Delhi and West Bengal.
