India records highest single-day spike of 96,551 COVID-19 positive cases

COVID-19 tally in India crossed 45 lakh mark on Friday morning.

A record single-day spike of 96,551 new COVID-19 patients has pushed the COVID-19 tally in India over 45 lakh mark while the death toll moved up to 76,271 with 1,209 more fatalities being reported in a day, official sources said on Friday.

The Union Health and Family Ministry on Friday stated in its 8 am bulletin that the total COVID-19 confirmed cases has spiraled to 45,62,414, while the recoveries surged to 35,42,663. With it, the recovery rate was recorded at 77.65 per cent.

However, the COVID-19 fatality rate dropped to 1.67 per cent and the active cases stood at 20.68 per cent of the total caseload with 9,43,480 active cases of the 5,40,97,975 samples that have been tested up to September 10, according to ICMR.

As many as 11,63,542 samples were tested on Thursday, the ICMR said.

Meanwhile, in Manipur, the COVID-19 positive tally reached 7470 cases on Thursday evening while the death toll rose to 44, according to the state health department.

Assam, however, reported the highest number of cases in the Northeast India region with 1,35,805 confirmed cases, including 1,05,702 recoveries and 414 deaths due to COVID-19 till date.
