India logs 36 more COVID-19 fatalities, death toll 5,27,134

India's COVID-19 death toll on Wednesday rose to 5,27,134 with 36 more fatalities while the country's tally reached 4,42,86,256 with the addition of 9,062 new cases, according to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry.

Among the new positive cases, the highest number of cases were reported from Karnataka at 1,121, followed by Delhi with 917 and Maharashtra with 835 cases.

Of the 36 deaths reported on Wednesday, six fatalities each were from Kerala and Punjab, five from Karnataka, three each from Rajasthan and Delhi, two each from Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, and one each from Ladakh, Sikkim, Chandigarh, Haryana, Gujarat, Odisha and West Bengal.

As per the latest update by the Health Ministry, total of 15,220 COVID-19 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. The cumulative tally of recovered cases is 4,36,54,064 and the country's recovery rate stood at 98.57 per cent as of Wednesday.

India’s COVID-19 active caseload dropped to 1,05,058 on Wednesday from Tuesday's 1,11,252.

The last 24 hours saw a total of 3,64,038 COVID-19 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted 88,10,56,541 cumulative tests, the Health Ministry stated.

The weekly positivity rate in the country was recorded at 4.38 per cent while the daily positivity rate was reported to be 2.49 per cent, as per the Health Ministry data.

Meanwhile, India’s cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage has reached 2,08,57,15,251, including 12,58,48,017 precaution doses. Over 3.98 crore first dose vaccines have so far been administered for the age group 12-14 years.
