As many as 18,815 new COVID-19 cases and 38 fatalities were reported in India in a span of 24 hours, according to the latest data updated by the Union Health Ministry.
The country's cumulative confirmed COVID-19 cases surged to 4,35,85,554 with the addition of the new cases while the death count stood at 5,25,343. There are 1,22,335 active cases in India, comprising 0.28 per cent of the total positive cases, as per the Health Ministry data.
Kerala, which has the highest number of active cases in the country with 29,772 cases, reported a total of 3,661 new positive cases and 16 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Among the Northeastern states, Assam has the highest active caseload at 1,138, followed by Mizoram with 497 cases and Arunachal Pradesh with 101 cases.
India also recorded 15,899 new COVID-19 recoveries, taking the cumulative tally of recovered cases to 4,29,37,876. The country's recovery rate stood at 98.51 per cent as of Friday.
Meanwhile, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 198.51 crore as per provisional reports till 7 am Friday.
