India COVID-19 Updates: Total tally crosses 62-lakh mark; 80,472 new cases reported

The total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in India is 62,25,763, including 9,40,441 active cases and 51,87,825 recoveries.

India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 62-lakh mark with 80,472 new positive cases and 1,179 deaths reported in a span of 24 hours, as per the latest updates by the Union Health Ministry. 

According to the Health Ministry,  the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in India is 62,25,763, including 9,40,441 active cases and 51,87,825 recoveries. While the active cases constitute 15.11 per cent of the total caseload, the recovery rate has risen to 83.33 per cent, the Health Ministry stated.

Of the 62,25,763 total coronavirus cases, a total of 97,497 people have died due to COVID-19. India’s fatality rate due to the coronavirus infection records at 1.57 per cent, the Health Ministry said.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 7,41,96,729 samples have been tested for COVID-19 as of September 29. Of these, 10,86,688 samples were tested on Tuesday.

In India, Maharashtra remains the worst affected state by the coronavirus pandemic with 13,66,129 confirmed cases and 36,181 deaths, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 6,87,351 confirmed cases and 5,780 deaths and Karnataka with 5,92,911 cases and 8,777 deaths.

However, affected states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have shown a dip in average coronavirus cases.

India continues to be the second worst-affected country by COVID-19, next only to the United States which has  more than 72 lakh COVID-19 cases.
