India COVID-19 Update: 20,557 new cases, 40 deaths in 24 hours

India on Wednesday recorded 20,557 new COVID-19 cases taking the total tally of Coronavirus cases to 4,38,03,619, according to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry.

The death toll climbed to 5,25,825 with 40  more fatalities, the Health Ministry stated.

The 40 COVID-19 fatalities include 11 from Kerala, six each from Maharashtra and West Bengal, four from Punjab, three each from Assam and Sikkim, two from Delhi and one each from Odisha, Rajasthan, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Manipur.

A total of 4,98,034 COVID-19 tests were conducted in India in the last 24 hours. India has so far conducted 87.06 crore COVID-19 cases.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.13 per cent and the weekly positivity rate at 4.62 per cent, as per the latest update.

The country also recorded 18,517 new recoveries in the last 24 hours, increasing the total number of recovered cases to 4,31,32,140. India's recovery rate currently stood at 98.47 per cent.

Consequently, India's COVID-19 active caseload stood at 1,45,654 as of Wednesday.

As many as 2,00,61,24,684 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in India under the COVID-19 vaccination drive, according to the latest update.
