Heirok Covid task force cremates Covid victims observing traditions

The initiative has proved to be a solution for the dilemma faced by family members who have got no one else to perform the last rites of their dear ones.

Heirok assembly constituency Covid task force had been taking full responsibility for performing the task of cremating people who died of COVID-19. 

Apat from providing opportunities for relatives to perform the traditional rites of laying flowers over the body of the deceased, the initiative has also proved to be a solution for the dilemma faced by family members who have got no one else to perform the last rites of their dear ones.

In regard to Heirok assembly constituency, the actions of the Covid task force have eased the burden of the state government and departments concerned in regard to the cremation of COVID-19 victims, a statement said.

Right from bringing the dead bodies from respective hospitals up till the end of cremation ceremonies, the tasks are performed in strict adherence to the guidelines stated in the 'Dead Body Management' issued by the directorate general (Health Services), ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

At present, four volunteers of the Heirok Covid task force have been taking active roles in the cremation of COVID-19 victims. They are Laishram Megha and Laishram Chand from Heitup Pokpi Mamang Leikai, Heirok Part-I, and Shaikhom Geet Chandra and Thokchom Sidam from Heirok part-II Keithel, the statement mentioned.

Laishram Megha said that the task of cremation for COVID-19 victims have been taken up by task forces of every locality in Heirok under the supervision of local MLA Th Radheshyam keeping in view the difficulties and sorrow of family members who are unable to perform the last rites of their loved ones.

It is unfortunate that certain rumours have been floating around, saying that the actions taken up by the Covid task forces are solely for publicity while the truth is that the task forces have taken up the initiative on humanitarian grounds, he said. 

“Heirok Task Forces have been performing the cremation of COVID-19 patients considering each and every one of us is brethren, and we will continue to do so in the future,” Laishram Megha added.
