Daily COVID-19 caseload in Manipur crosses 100-mark

A total of 116 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Manipur while one more patient died on Tuesday.

Manipur's daily COVID-19 tally crossed the 100-mark on Tuesday, pushing the state's total caseload to 1,26,344, while one more patient died due to the infection, official sources said.

On Tuesday, a total of 2,283 samples were tested for COVID-19, of which 116 returned positive and the day's positivity rate is 5.1 per cent. So far, as many as 14,80,947 COVID-19 tests have been done in Manipur, the sources said.

Among the new COVID-19 positive cases, 99 were from the general population while 17 cases were personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). From the general population, 33 were from Imphal West, 24 from Imphal East, 21 from Churachandpur, four each from Senapati and Thoubal, three each from Kakching and Kangpokpi, two from Bishnupur, and one each from Chandel, Noney, Tamenglong, Tengnoupal and Ukhrul, a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.

The single COVID-19 death recorded in the state on Tuesday was from Imphal East. The deceased had comorbidities and was vaccinated with the first dose. The death toll has reached 2,012, it stated.

The state also recorded 24 new recoveries, taking the cumulative number of COVID-19 recoveries to 1,23,793. The recovery rate is 97.98 per cent and the number of active cases surged to 539 from Monday's 438, the release stated.

The total number of people who have been administered the vaccine has reached 23,56,145 ( first dose: 13,45,049, second dose: 10,10,506 and precautionary dose: 590).

As of January 10, a total of 460 D-type oxygen cylinders and 86 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours, the release added.
