COVID-19: Two more die in Manipur; 58 new cases in 24 hours

The death toll in Manipur surged to 336 on Saturday.

COVID-19 claimed two more lives in Manipur, pushing the death toll to 336, while 58 more persons, including two Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, tested positive for COVID-19 in a span of 24 hours, the state health department said on Saturday. 

The total caseload in the state is now 27,598, of which 1,750 cases are active while 25,512 patients have recovered, according to a release issued by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room.

A 76-year-old man from Imphal East district and a 75-year-old man from Senapati died due to the disease at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal on Saturday, the release stated. 

The new positive cases from the general population included 28 from Imphal West, 16 from Imphal East, five from Tamenglong, four from Churachandpur, two from Thoubal and one from Senapati. All are locals without any significant travel history. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the state health department said.

Meanwhile, 141 persons recovered from the disease on Saturday and the state's recovery rate stood at 92.44 per cent, it added.

The total number of patients under home isolation in Manipur surged to 8,340, of which 7,506 have recuperated from the infection while 469 cases are active.

The state health department further advised the public to dial 104 – Manipur Mental Health Helpline (9 am to 9 pm), for mental wellbeing. If you were in contact with a positive case, immediately self-isolate and contact COVID-19 Common Control Room or the district Chief Medical Officer for testing.

In case of emergency, one can dial 24x7 Covid Common Control Room Number-1800-345-3818.
