COVID-19: India's active caseload drops to 2,68,581; recoveries surpass 98 lakh

The daily new cases touched a new low on Tuesday with less than 16,500 daily new cases, the lowest in 187 days.

India's active COVID-19 caseload has dropped to 2,68,581, while the cumulative recoveries inched closer to 1 crore, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

As per the latest updates by the ministry, the number of recovered cases has crossed 98 lakh (98,07,569) on Tuesday. As many as 24,900 more cases have recovered. With it, the national recovery rate has improved to 95.92 per cent, while the active caseload comprised only 2.63 per cent of the country's total caseload, which is now 1,02,24,303.

The Union Health Ministry said that the daily new cases touched a new low on Tuesday with less than 16,500 daily new cases, the lowest in 187 days. 

"16,432  daily new cases were added to the national tally in the last 24 hours after 187 days. The daily new cases were 16,922 on June 25, 2020," the ministry said.

Kerala reported the maximum daily new cases numbering 3,047. On Monday, Maharashtra recorded 2,498 new cases while Chhattisgarh reported 1,188 new cases.

The death toll in India surged to 1,48,153 with 252 new fatalities. Maharashtra reported 50  deaths, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh follow with 27 and 26 new deaths, respectively, the ministry added.
