COVID-19 death toll climbs to 36 in Manipur's Kangpokpi district

The Kangpokpi Covid Task Force intensified preventive measures in the district as the number of new positive cases continues to rise.

Following the detection of 22 positive cases in the last 24 hours, Kangpokpi district is back to 100th mark for the fourth time while the fatality count also climbed up to 36 with one more death on Tuesday.

Last week, Covid infection in the district dipped as low as 65, but within a week it climbed back to the 100th mark. With 22 positive cases on Tuesday, the active case in the district stands at 103.

Following the reported death of a 33-year-old mother from Motbung Model village today at RIMS Hospital Imphal, the fatality in the district as well climbed up to 36.

Maunching’s mortal remains were buried at Motbung Model Village Cemetery following strict Covid protocols.

Meanwhile, the Covid task force of Kangpokpi assembly constituency intensified preventive measures in their respective areas and continued its Covid-related activities.

Covid task force Irang area embarked on mass vaccination on Tuesday at Panikheti Irang Part-II Government High School in collaboration with the former local executive member of ADC Sadar Hills BP Vikas Basnet, the medical department, and central task force T Waichong under the initiative of local MLA Nemcha Kipgen.

Altogether, 210 individuals from eight villages were vaccinated during the vaccination drive.

Covid task force Kalapahar sanitised the PHC Kalapahar and its surrounding areas following a request from the medical team and assisted the medical team in sealing the residence of patients under home isolation and contact tracing of the recently detected Covid positive patients.

Covid task force Kangpokpi participated in a short discussion and awareness seminar at the office chamber of medical superintendent, District Hospital Kangpokpi Dr Paotinlal Haokip, where basic technicality and Dos and Don’ts were imparted to the Covid task force leaders.

Following instructions from MLA Nemcha Kipgen, chief medical officer in charge Kangpokpi Dr Ph Henkhoneng Mate issued a memorandum on June 19, stating that in order to streamline the coordination in the fight against COVID-19, necessary awareness and orientation to Covid task force on Covid appropriate behaviour shall be imparted, so that they can ensure Covid appropriate behaviour among the general public.
