COVID-19 confirmed tally crosses 20000 mark in Manipur

COVID-19 related death toll rose to 194 in Manipur on Saturday

Despite the massive Jan Andolan campaign and other efforts by the government and frontline workers to curb the spread of the pandemic, the COVID-19 confirmed tally has crossed the 20000 mark and the death toll kept rising steadily in Manipur. 

A total of 240 more COVID-19 positive patients and three more deaths pushed the cumulative confirmed tally to 20,131 cases and the death toll to 194 in Manipur on Saturday. The total confirmed cases included 2,825 Central security personnel and 3,223 active cases, a release from the state’s COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

The new positive cases from the general population are 55 from Imphal West, 72 from Imphal East, 16 from Thoubal, nine from Bishnupur, one from Kakching, seven from Kangpokpi, 40 from Tamenglong, three from Senapati, two from Ukhrul, 12 from Churachandpur, four from Tengnoupal, three from Jiribam, one from Kamjong and one from Chandel, the release stated.

All are locals without any significant travel history, the release stated, adding that they are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities and all necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

The three COVID-19 victims are two from Imphal West and one from Thoubal, while a total number of 622 more patients have been discharged. With it, the cumulative number of recovered cases is 16.714 (General Population - 14.166 and Central Security Personnel 2.548). The recovery rate now stands 83.02 per cent.

A weekly media briefing on Covid-19 is being held at the Directorate of Health Services since November 6 to facilitate effective communication between the Health Department and the public.

Meanwhile, those who are in contact with a COVID-19 positive person have been advised to isolate themselves. Contact Covid Control Room or CMO for testing, the health department stated.
