COVID-19 claims one more life in Manipur; 16 people test positive

Manipur's COVID-19 death toll rose to 2,003 on Sunday as one more patient from Bishnupur died due to the infection. The deceased had comorbidities and was not vaccinated, official sources said.

The state's COVID-19 tally also surged to 1,25,823 with the addition of 16 new positive cases. The new COVID-19 cases were among the 661 samples tested and the positivity rate is 2.4 per cent, the sources said.

According to the latest release by the state COVID-19 Common Control Room, all the 16 people who tested positive for COVID-19 belong to the general population. Seven are from Imphal West district, three from Imphal East, two each from Kakching and Thoubal, and one each from Bishnupur and Tengnoupal.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.

The state also recorded seven new recoveries on Sunday, pushing the cumulative number of COVID-19 recoveries to 1,23,605. The recovery rate is 98.24 per cent and the number of active cases stand at 215 as of Sunday, as per the release.

As of January 1, a total of 184 D-type oxygen cylinders and 91 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur in the last 24 hours, the release stated.

The total number of people who have been administered the vaccine has reached 23,16,105 (first dose: 13,25023 second dose: 9,91,082) across the state, the release added.
