COVID-19 active cases surge to 9,613 in Manipur

A total of 527 more persons tested positive for the infection in a span of 24 hours in Manipur.

Manipur's COVID-19 caseload on Sunday surged to 64,065 as 527 more persons tested positive for the infection in 24 hours, as per the latest updates from the state health department.

The new positive cases included 169 from Imphal West, 78 from Imphal East, 66 from Bishnupur, 62 from Thoubal, 51 from Kakching, 45 from Churachandpur, 20 from Kangpokpi,  10 from Ukhrul, nine from Tamenglong, seven from Jiribam,  three each from Chandel and Tengnoupal, two from Senapati, and one each from Noney and Kamjong, a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

The state also recorded 444 new recoveries during the same period, leaving the number of COVID-19 active cases to 9,613. The cumulative number of recovered cases in Manipur is 53,405 and the recovery rate is 83.36 per cent, the release stated.

COVID-19 claimed eight more lives in the state, pushing the death toll to 1,047. Two deaths each were from Imphal East and Thoubal, while Imphal West, Bishnupur, Kakching and Churachandpur reported one death each, as per the release.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,643 D-type oxygen cylinders and 367 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities of the state in the last 24 hours.

The cumulative number of people who have been inoculated in Manipur reached 4,93,501, the release added.
