India on Wednesday recorded 54 more COVID-19 related fatalities, pushing the country's death toll to 5,26,826 while the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases surged to 4,41,90.697 with 16,047 more cases, according to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry.

Among the new positive cases, as many as 2,495 were from Delhi alone. Maharashtra and Karnataka reported 1,782 and 1,608 new positive cases respectively.

Of the 54 deaths reported on Wednesday, Maharashtra, Delhi and Punjab reported seven fatalities each. Six deaths were from Kerala, five from West Bengal, three each from Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh, two each from Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim, and one each from Nagaland, Jharkhand, Haryana and Gujarat.

A total of 19,539 COVID-19 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. The cumulative tally of recovered cases is 4,35,35,610 and the country's recovery rate stood at 98.52 per cent as of Wednesday.

India’s COVID-19 active caseload stood at 1,28,261, constituting 0.29 per cent of the country's total positive cases.

The last 24 hours saw a total of 3,25,081 COVID-19 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 87.88 crore cumulative tests, the Health Ministry stated.

The weekly positivity rate in the country was recorded at 4.90 per cent while the daily positivity rate was reported to be 4.94 per cent, as per the Health Ministry data.

Meanwhile, India’s cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage has 2,07,03,71,204, including 3,53,88,238 precaution doses. Over 3.96 crore first dose vaccines have so far been administered for the age group 12-14 years.
