Tamenglong Forest division on Friday organised World Ozone Day at Model village government high school under the theme ‘Global Cooperation Protecting Life on Earth.’

Tamenglong range forest officer Joel Gangmei attended the event as chief guest. Tousem forest range officer S Khogen and Model village government high school principal Gailinlung Sabastian also attended as president and guest of honour respectively.

In his speech as chief guest, Joel Gangmei said that the ozone layer protects the ultra violet rays being emitted from the sun. Now, there are holes in ozone layers which are also getting bigger in size, he said.

He emphasized the students to use local products, rather than using chemicals that contain carbodiimide which is hazardous to humans.

He further urged to spread the message about ozone layer protection by planting trees to other family members in the locality.

In his presidential speech, Tousem forest range forest officer S Khogen Singh said that no one will survive if the ozone layer gets completely depleted. He said different diseases will be caused if there is no ozone layer.

The Ozone layer protects the earth from the different rays and gas coming out from different planets.

Students need to study thoroughly about the ozone layer which gives life to animals including human beings. In order to protect the ozone layer, we need to plant more and more trees, he said.

He also mentioned that the increasing number of motor vehicles has contributed to the gradual depletion of the ozone layer. One should reduce commuting on motor vehicles and opt for walking on foot instead, he added.
